Steve was a gifted Martial Artist, an Inspirational Teacher and a Friend to all those who knew him. Steve dedicated himself to understanding the arts of Kenpo and Surfing and lived a rich and fulfilling life finding commonalities between the two arts which forever inspired him and changed his understanding of Timing, Rhythm and Tempo.

Steve's Vibrant and Charismatic life force was infectious to those who trained and studied under him and his interpretation of Kenpo was singular, unique and as vicious as it was beautiful. Steve was also a Powerful, Innovative and Fluid surfer who gained a deeper understanding of the variability and interconnectedness of all things due to his relationship with the Sea. Steve's presence at the local reefs in La Jolla was as impacting as his presence at the Dojo and the La Jolla surf community mourns his loss as deeply as those who studied under him in Kenpo.

Steve experienced the trauma of Combat firsthand in the jungles of Vietnam and struggled for the rest of his life to understand what he saw and experienced there. His interpretation of the Art of Kenpo was directly influ.enced by his Combat experiences and he developed a Direct, No Frills approach to Self-Defense. Steve was strongly affiliated with the Tiger Spirit of Kenpo Karate and remained so to the end of his life.

Steve gave of himself constantly both inside and outside of the Dojo and often literally gave students & friends the shirt off his back. Despite his experiences in the war and his dedication to the art of Fighting, Steve never lost sight of the ideal of Peace and was Humble and Respectful to all those he encountered in life.

Steve's life experiences and intuitive interest in cutting edge performance and youthful energy made him a Coach above all other things and his Dynamic Coaching abilities immediately attracted new and return students alike. Steve coached his students on much more than the art of Kenpo Karate; he gave them a deeper understanding of Life, Death and the Space in Between. Steve Died the way he Lived; on his own terms and in his own way.

A Teacher, a Friend and a Father to many; his physical presence will always be missed...
